Take a boat from the port of Kastelli and firstly visit Gramvousa – a little island that faces Balos Lagoon, where you will see an abandoned ship and a Venetian fortress. After this hike up and down the hill, you will be taken to relax on the virgin beach of Balos Lagoon and swim in its shallow turquoise waters.
Safe to say, Elafonisi is one of the most popular beaches of Europe. Thousands of people come here every year to witness its astonishing pink sands and crystal clear waters the colour of the sky.
This beach is perfect for families with children, as the water is very shallow and pleasant. The setting of Elafonisi is truly Edenic and makes you think of the Carribean islands.
Sougia village is located in the south of Crete and it takes about 1,5 hours drive from Niki’s Dream Apartments to reach it. But it really is worth it, and not only because the drive through gorges and mountains is incredibly beautiful.
This village is a little paradise with crystal clear waters, traditional tavernas and quiet village, much less affected by tourism when comparing to the Northern coast of Crete. For the same reason, this spot is quite popular amongst hippies and Greek visitors in August.
Even though Sfakia is known for its rebellious culture full of eccentric traditions, it is a peaceful travel destination worth visiting due to its picturesque landscapes and delicious cuisine with an emphasis on meat.
Apart from that, the port of Hora Sfakion is a perfect point from where you can explore distant villages accessible only by boat and the island of Gavdos with its wild beauty and nudist beaches.
This beach is located only a 20-minute drive away. Favoured by the locals, it has great facilities: bar, restaurants, sunbeds and showers, – everything you need for a comfortable beach session.
Apart from that, Loutraki is a great choice because of its crystal clear waters and good conditions for snorkelling. While the water from the side of the beach bar, there is also a family-friendly space on the main beach where your children can play in the shallow waters.
Another great beach in the area of Akrotiri and not far from Niki’s Dream is Marathi. It has two beaches and both of them have beautiful blue water and clean white sand.
